My not so simple journey to 160GB

I've had a long and love-filled history with Apple products, especially iPods. I was the first kid in junior high with one with a 3rd Gen I got for Hanukkah in 2002. My prized possession though was a solid 80 gig iPod that I used for years. Most of high school, most of college, and then it was stolen. I was crushed, but used a used iPod touch for the last couple of months. I'm not a fan of the touch screen or swiping to open and the 16GB that puppy had was just no where near big enough for what I wanted to listen to.

Cue: the most amazing mother is the world! I think my music aficionado parents took pity on me and we picked up a brand spanking new iPod Classic from Best Buy.
*heavenly noises*
If you know me and my family, you'll know that sometimes we're not the quickest to the technological game. I'm using a 2009 Mac laptop that definitely suffices, but is feeling it's old age. I noticed that new iPods run with iTunes 10.7 or higher. I use 10.6.1. I saw the new iTunes three years ago and promptly said NOPE, not having that ugly design and uncooperative layout. But, for the love of my new baby, I downloaded new iTunes. But new iTunes will only run on OS X version 10.6.8 or higher. I use a full level or two below that. When I tried to download 10.6.8, it said I couldn't open it until I had 10.6.
ARGHHH.
Luckily, my dad happened to have the disc for Snow Leopard, but it only went to 10.6.3. I upgrade to Snow Leopard (which takes an hour), then upgrade to 10.6.8, then upgrade to iTunes 10.7, THEN, lo and behold, I plug in my iPod and it works! Spend another hour transferring all my files and boom, I've got 10,000 songs and not even a third of the way filled up. I can't believe I figured that all out. I'm very hit and miss when it comes to understanding tech. There are still a few tweaks I need to figure out (like I can't open my Stickies anymore since I have too low a version?) and the new iTunes is butt ugly and impractical, but I'll get used to it. I can't complain about facebook changes anymore so I'll just be irked by sporadic iTunes updates. There might even be some upsides to having a new operating systems. I haven't tried watching any videos yet (did I mention my computer can't stream any video) so we'll see. I'm so pumped the have the iPod I've always wanted! Christmas in August ;]
